Handed down from generation to generation, the story of the murder of William Maddox has fascinated my extended family. I'd like to think that in the photo below, my great-grandmother, the victim's granddaughter, is whispering the story in my baby ears for the first time.
In 2002, a cousin and I found our first proof of the story while looking at newspaper microfilm in the library at Jacksonville, Illinois.
This blog is how I'm passing the story on to my grandchildren and sharing new details with my cousins. I'll tell the story by sharing the records that I've found over the past dozen years.
Be sure to check not only the
posts, but also the information pages that are shown across the bar,
above the posts. If I leave you confused, please leave a comment or send me an email.
