The Family Legend

Remember the old game of Gossip? The family legend, as I heard it, is not true to the records. I ask each person who has heard this version or another to please leave a comment as to what they heard. Is there a single whitewash or has it just been distorted by time?
 
 

The Legend According to Leona Crispen

William was chasing his wife (Nancy) with an axe, trying to kill her. So his son grabbed the gun from over the cabin door and shot his father dead.

I suspect each of those sentences has a basis in truth. However, based on witness testimony, that was not what happened on that fateful day.

Cousin Feedback

My cousins, via Facebook, shared that they had not heard the legend. I recently heard a speaker say that family stories will be lost within three generations unless they are deliberately told and retold. I'm grateful that the story was passed down to me, a member of the fifth generation from the victim. By telling the story here, the tale will live on forever, thanks to the memory of the internet.
